Commander X Busted

9108931689?profile=RESIZE_400xMexican media sources are reporting that hacktivist Christopher Doyon, known as 'Commander X', was captured in Mexico and extradited to the United States, where he faces over a decade's worth of criminal hacking charges.  Doyan now claims that he was illegally handed over to the US authorities and is claiming political asylum in Mexico.

"Please tell the world that I was illegally handed over from Mexico, where I had political asylum and where I was a humanitarian refugee.  I was illegally taken out of the country under the clandestinely of darkness," Doyan’s sister said in a recording that was released by Christopher Doyon on social media.[1]

The hacktivist's sister additionally asked through her Twitter account for the intervention of the Mexican President and commented that she should be permitted to intervene in freeing Christopher Doyon.

Mexico is no asking, ¿Quién es el ‘Comandante X’ de Anonymous que fue capturado en México? Or, “Who is Anonymous's 'Commander X' - who was captured in Mexico?”

Amy Beth Doyan said in a post, "Mr. President López Obrador, you are silent in the face of my pleas for help.  My brother, Christopher M Doyon, was in his country under the sanctity of the #PoliticalAsylum (political asylum).  You allowed them to send my brother to be tortured and possibly killed."  This has been a surprising turn of events for the “Homeless Hacktivist” who he also goes by this handle.  Doyan spent his years first in Canada and then in Mexico posting press releases, hanging out on Twitter, appearing in documentaries and meetings with journalists.

That all changed on 11 June when Doyon was arrested by Mexican police.  Doyon was on the run in Mexico for nearly a decade after working with the PLF and was later a high-ranking member of the hacktivist group Anonymous during its most active years.  Doyon has spoken at length about his time as a fugitive and the charges he faces.

"No servers were breached or data was stolen. It's a small act of civil disobedience of collective collaboration," Doyan said in 2017.  Yeah, Doyan – we believe that.  “It's unfair to take away so many years to protest... from my perspective, I am in political exile.  But according to the US Department of Justice, I'm a fugitive."

Back in Mexico, a collective campaign organized by Doyon's friends earlier this month is calling him a "political refugee."

The long arm of the law is always working.  For many social media activists, law enforcement is getting more sophisticated and are now catching hackers large and small.  Doyan was a big fish in the underground world of the deep and darkness.
