German Bank Hit

13540510901?profile=RESIZE_400xPolitically motivated pro-Russian hackers Noname057(16) are ramping up distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks against German organizations, disrupting the websites of banks, manufacturers, and other companies.   The Russia-aligned hacking group claims to have attacked Bayerische Landesbank, a major state-owned German bank; BayWa AG, a global agriculture, energy, and building materials company; COBUS Industries, a manufacturer of airport shuttle buses; and Aluminium Rheinfelden Alloys, a producer of aluminum alloys.  NoName claims on Telegram that the organizations' websites were taken offline.

The group increased its attacks in Germany as a likely reaction to incoming Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s plans to supply Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles, according to golem.de.  Local media reports that Noname057(16) also targeted the websites of the city administrations of Hanover, Düsseldorf, Leipzig, Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, and Cologne, and attempted attacks against websites of major companies, such as Volkswagen, Commerzbank, Baywa, Osram, DZ Bank, and others.

Two other cyber threat groups, Keymous+ and Dark Storm, also joined the efforts targeting German companies, media, and authorities.  DDoS attacks were launched against Hannover, the State capital Düsseldorf, the City of Leipzig, and many other municipalities.

DDoS attacks disrupt access to services.  However, they are often considered more of a nuisance and do not cause lasting damage.  Many of the attacked systems have effective DDoS protection in place, and legitimate users can still use the services.
