A recent mobile phishing campaign targeting customers of more than a dozen North American banks, included: Chase, Royal Bank of Canada and TD Bank, Scotiabank, CIBC, Royal Bank of Canada, UNI, HSBC, Tangerine, TD Bank, Meridian, Laurentian, Manulife, BNC and Chase, managed to trick nearly 4,000 victims. Between June 2019 and February 2020, these mobile attacks used an automated SMS tool to send spoofed security text messages to mobile phone users. Mobile provider security investigators identified the on-going phishing campaign and sent a warning to their customers and bank officials.
